Living our mission: when one step makes all the difference.
At StatLab, our mission is simple yet powerful: to empower our customers to provide the best patient care possible. Every day, our employees bring this mission to life through their commitment, accountability, and care for patients they may never meet—but whose lives are deeply impacted by their actions.
A powerful example of this is Joseph Romero, our Material Handling Supervisor at our Texas Distribution Site.
In September 2024, Joseph received a returned formalin prefill from a carrier. This was a specimen that instead of being shipped from the physician to the laboratory, was returned instead to StatLab, the manufacturer of the prefill, because the shipment was damaged and the intended address unreadable. Inside was patient tissue—something that could have easily been overlooked, set aside, or discarded. Instead, Joseph recognized the importance of the situation and immediately turned the specimen over to our Product Support team.
Because of Joseph’s attentiveness and sense of responsibility, our team was able to track down the physician and ensure the specimen reached the correct laboratory. The tissue turned out to be a critical melanoma specimen, and the patient was anxiously awaiting results to determine their treatment plan.
Joseph’s decision to take that extra step directly contributed to timely diagnosis and treatment—potentially saving a life.
This moment reflects everything we stand for at StatLab. As one team member shared, “The patient receiving treatment was positively impacted because of Joseph taking this step.”
We are incredibly proud of Joseph and grateful to have employees who truly care. Stories like this remind us that our work is about more than products—it’s about people, trust, and lives impacted every single day.
