Putting StatGrip® reagent bottles to the test.

Putting StatGrip® reagent bottles to the test.

Smarter reagent bottles for lab techs.

We put our bottles to the test.

Background
StatLab’s new StatGrip® gallon bottle with HistoFlow® dispensing technology addresses long-standing issues with traditional F-style or other gallon lab containers – such as glugging, poor ergonomics, and inefficient storage – by offering a purpose-built solution designed specifically for pathology labs. As the first pathology supplier to customize blowmolded bottles, StatLab incorporated the needs and safety of lab techs into every design element. The result is a bottle that’s easier to pour, handle, store, and label, earning perfect scores across all evaluation criteria and unanimous praise from lab professionals.
Customer Feedback Approach
StatLab gathered customer feedback after testing functionality, focusing on four key areas:
  • Pouring performance
  • Ergonomic handling
  • Storage and retrieval
  • Fit in flammable safety cabinets
Participants were provided with a sample bottle filled with water and simulated storage/retrieval, transport/ handling, and pouring contents using both a onehanded technique and a two-handed technique (see Figures 2 and 3). Participants scored each area on a 100-point scale and provided qualitative observations. Participants that provided feedback were from hospital, reference, GI, research, and private labs.

Usability
Using the System Usability Scale (SUS), users rated StatGrip gallon bottle performance after testing the functionality by simulating storage/retrieval, transport/ handling, and pouring. Usability scores were recorded and normalized on 0-100 percent scale, with StatLab targeting the “excellent” range (85-100%).
Usability Testing Results
System Usability Scales (SUS) measurements were recorded after product testing sessions. SUS are designed to assess overall opinions of a product (or technology) in development by answering survey questions regarding a product tester’s opinion of product usability, complexity, support needed, integration ability, and confidence using the product (see Table 1). Results are normalized and expressed as a percent; with 40% being a poor grade and >85% being an excellent grade. As Table 2 indicates below, SUS scores were found to be greater than 85% across all participants.

System Usability Scale (SUS) Questions
Key Results
  • Pouring performance: Users reported smooth, controlled pouring with no glugging or spillage.
  • Ergonomic handling: The grip design was praised for comfort and ease of use, even with gloves.
  • Storage and retrieval: The bottle’s shape and grip placement made it easy to store and retrieve, even in tight spaces.
  • Flammable cabinet fit: Dimensions are optimized for standard flammable

Conclusion
The StatGrip gallon bottle with HistoFlow dispensing technology delivers on every front: easy to pour, improved ergonomics, and smarter storage. With strong feedback and no reported issues, it’s a clear upgrade – and a strong example of how listening to lab professionals leads to better tools.
